You stay near Clarke Quay or Bugis, both a short MRT ride from Sentosa, Marina Bay and Little India — which matters when you need a familiar dinner or a chemist at 10pm. A three-day tourist MRT pass is included, so you are not dependent on a coach schedule.

Arrive in Singapore, evening at Marina Bay

Land at Changi — worth an hour on its own for the Jewel Rain Vortex — and transfer to your hotel. In the evening, Marina Bay for the Merlion, the Helix Bridge and the Spectra light and water show at 8pm.

Universal Studios Singapore

A full day at Universal Studios on Sentosa. Seven themed zones, Transformers and Battlestar Galactica for older children, Madagascar and Sesame Street for younger ones. Return by cable car for the view.

Sentosa — aquarium, skyline luge and the beach

S.E.A. Aquarium in the morning, one of the largest in the world. Then the Skyline Luge, Wings of Time in the evening and time on Siloso beach in between.

Gardens by the Bay and the Night Safari

Morning at Gardens by the Bay — the Cloud Forest, the Flower Dome and the OCBC Skyway between the Supertrees. Afternoon free for Orchard Road or Little India. Evening at the Night Safari, a tram through open habitats after dark.

Faultless with two small children

Pre-booked tickets meant no queuing anywhere, which with a four-year-old is the entire ballgame. The MRT pass was a nice touch — we did the city at our own pace.
