Gulmarg for the Gondola — phase one to Kongdoori, phase two to Apharwat at 3,979 metres — Pahalgam for the Lidder valley and Betaab, and Srinagar for the Mughal gardens and the shikara ride.

Go in April for the tulip garden, June to escape the heat, or December for snow. Our drivers are local and know when a road is likely to close, which matters more here than anywhere else we operate.

Day-wise Itinerary

Arrive in Srinagar, shikara ride on Dal Lake

Land at Srinagar airport and transfer to your houseboat on Dal Lake. Afternoon shikara ride across the lake past the floating gardens and the vegetable market, with kahwa served on board. Evening on the houseboat deck.

Gulmarg and the Gondola

A day trip to Gulmarg, about two hours west. The Gondola cable car — phase one to Kongdoori and phase two to Apharwat peak at 3,979 metres, snow at the top for most of the year. Pony rides and the golf course in summer. Back to Srinagar for the night.

Pahalgam and the Betaab valley

East to Pahalgam through saffron fields and cricket-bat willow groves. Local taxis run up to Aru, Chandanwari and the Betaab valley, named after the film shot there. Afternoon by the Lidder river.

Sonamarg and the Thajiwas glacier

A long day north to Sonamarg, the meadow of gold, with a pony ride or a walk up to the Thajiwas glacier. Spectacular drive along the Sindh river. Return to Srinagar in the evening.

Mughal gardens and Srinagar old city

Nishat Bagh, Shalimar Bagh and Chashme Shahi — the terraced Mughal gardens above the lake — then the Shankaracharya temple for the view over the valley. Afternoon in the old city for pashmina, papier-mâché and walnut wood.

Transfer to Srinagar airport for your flight home.
