Overview

Four days between the beach shacks of the north and the quiet sands of the south, with a Mandovi sunset cruise.

A short Goa trip that covers both halves of the state rather than parking you on one beach for four days.

Two nights north near Calangute for the markets, shacks and nightlife, one night south at Palolem where it goes quiet. Old Goa's churches, a spice plantation lunch and a Mandovi river sunset cruise fill the gaps.

Rates roughly double between 20 December and 5 January. Book the shoulder months if the dates are flexible.

Arrive in Goa, sunset at Calangute

Arrive at Dabolim or Mopa airport and transfer to your North Goa hotel. Afternoon free, then sunset at Calangute or Baga beach and dinner at a shack on the sand.

North Goa sightseeing and a Mandovi cruise

Fort Aguada and its lighthouse, Sinquerim beach, and the Basilica of Bom Jesus and Se Cathedral in Old Goa. Late afternoon boat cruise on the Mandovi with live music and a Goan folk performance on board.

Spice plantation and south to Palolem

A morning at a working spice plantation inland with a traditional Goan lunch served on a banana leaf. Then south to Palolem — a crescent bay, calmer water and far fewer people. Evening on the beach.

A last morning at Palolem, then check out and transfer to the airport.

Great trip, one small note

The sightseeing and the guides were excellent and the pace suited us. The hotel on the first two nights was a little further out than I expected — worth asking about location when you book. Everything else was flawless.
